Often accused of not missing home, I cannot deny that I have no need to suppress the urge to call home every other day, or think fondly of my mother’s cooking when I’m devouring an excellently made ji pai (chicken cutlet) with tiny but sumptuous deep-fried tang yuan, rounded up by giant-size watermelon juice sweet [...]
There was a farmhouse that had long since been deserted, we stopped and carved our hearts into the wooden surface.
